“I am absolutely loving @cunningfolkmag a magazine about magic, mythology, folklore and the occult curated by Elizabeth Kim. There are so many fascinating, thoughtful articles in these issues on the history of magic, working with the moon cycles, herbal remedies and pages of stunning illustrations. If you are interested in learning more about traditional and modern day magic it’s a brilliant resource. I’m learning soooo much.”

-Evanna Lynch, Actress and Activist

“I recently discovered [Cunning Folk Magazine] and I am obsessed! Honestly, it’s like someone looked inside my brain, and made a magazine that is exactly what I would want to read. Even down to the aesthetics and illustrations inside, it’s just perfect!”

-Stacey McEvoy Caunt , illustrator

“I just finished reading my Re-Enchantment Issue (I was savoring it and reading a little each day) and was just compelled to write to you to say how absolutely blown away I was by the quality of this magazine. It was one of those reading experiences where I felt like someone peeped into my brain, discovered the exact content that had been missing in my life and manifested it onto paper. Every piece was so interesting, the art was absolutely gorgeous, and I loved the variety included, particularly the practical pieces like recipes and ritual ideas. After reading, I felt so inspired and excited about this phase of "re-enchantment" that we seem to be going through as a collective.”

-Ashley Perry, reader

“I want to send this to everyone I care about”

I founded Cunning Folk in 2019. Initially it was online only, and quickly amassed a cult following and brought together a community of readers, writers, artists, scholars and practitioners. The print magazine launched in September 2020.

Since launching, we’ve published work from writers such as Naomi Ishiguro, Rebecca Tamás, Alice Slater, Damian Walford-Davies, Peter Grey, Lisa Marie Basile, Zoe Gilbert, Kirsty Logan and Jen Campbell. We’ve interviewed the likes of Professor Ronald Hutton, Toby Froud, Pam Grossman, Madeline Miller, Yvonne Battle-Felton, Kristen J. Sollée, Fernanda Melchor and Kiran Millwood Hargrave, and many more.

The result has been a strange mix of mainstream and counter culture. We skip small talk and talk about the things that haunt us, existential questions, the things we live for and things that make us think and feel. Where did we come from? Where are we going? Do we have a say in the matter?

Cunning Folk has been featured in Time Out London, Inside History Magazine and listed as Penguin as a resource for writers. I am editing/writing a book on/of occult writing, published by Liminal 11, to be published in June 2022 in the UK and the US.
